Coin Sorting Machine using Aurdino

The Coin Sorting Machine using aurdino

In the realm of engineering, practical projects not only demonstrate technical knowledge but also foster innovation and problem-solving skills. One such project that stands out is the design and creation of an automated coin sorting and counting machine by a team of enterprising college students.

The primary aim of this project was to engineer a system capable of autonomously sorting various denominations of coins, a task that requires precision and careful calibration. The machine was designed to identify coins based on size and other unique features, sorting them into designated compartments for pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

Key Goals Achieved:

- Coin Detection: The team implemented an ingenious mechanism using infrared sensors to detect coins as they passed through the machine.

- Sorting Mechanism: A meticulously designed physical arrangement guided coins into separate compartments, ensuring accurate sorting by value.

- Counting: The machine kept a precise count of the coins sorted for each denomination.

- Display: An LCD screen displayed the total count, providing immediate feedback on the sorting process.

Challenges :

- Sensor Calibration: The team tackled the challenge of calibrating IR sensors to accurately detect different coin sizes.

- Mechanical Design: They developed a reliable and efficient sorting mechanism that could accommodate a variety of coin sizes.

- Code Optimization: Efficient Arduino code was written to manage sensor inputs, sorting logic, and display updates seamlessly.

- Power Supply: A stable power source was established to ensure the smooth operation of both the Arduino and the sorting mechanism.

- False Positives/Negatives: The system was fine-tuned to minimize errors in coin detection, such as false positives or missed coins.

 Results:

The project culminated in a functional coin-sorting machine that:

- Detects and sorts coins with remarkable accuracy.

- Displays the total count for each coin denomination.

- Provides an organized method for collecting sorted coins.

This project not only showcases the students' technical prowess but also their ability to address real-world problems with innovative solutions. It serves as a testament to the practical application of academic knowledge and the potential of young minds to contribute meaningfully to technological advancement. The coin-sorting machine project is a shining example of how engineering can simplify tasks, enhance efficiency, and pave the way for future innovations.

Highlights of this project:

It was my first ever hardware project, I and my team started with the most minimal knowledge about Aurdino and breadboards and sensors..so it was an incredible learning experience as freshmen in college it was as exciting as solving a mystery puzzle
