Dream feild- finding its door
Are You Confused About Which Field to Choose? So Was I.
Let me walk you through the journey of how I discovered my dream field.
There’s a saying:
"You can’t put your hands in all buckets" – If you do, it’ll only become a mess and you'll end up good for nothing.
And yes, I was a mess—even during university—while pursuing my Bachelor’s in Technology. Choosing which bucket to dip my hands into was a really tough decision, mainly because of a lack of research and, of course, the mindset of "why settle for less?" So I kept trying out a bit of everything, here and there.
Because once you dip your hands fully into something, it feels like there's no coming out of it.
And just like that, two years of college flew by...
Hold on, hear me out…
It’s not like I was indecisive the entire time.
I was clear about studying Computer Science ever since 10th grade (thanks to my amazing computer teacher—while everyone spent 3 years learning Java, she made me a gem in less than two).
My 10th-grade mind thought,“With just one package (i.e., Applet), I can make an app 😅😂.”
Of course, the BTech-graduate me knows that’s not how it really works—file reading is definitely not the end of Java!
Thanks to classes in 10th, 11th, and 12th, I already knew what I wanted to do in my Bachelor’s.
The real question was—should I specialize or learn a bit of everything?
After rigorous discussions, I chose the core branch—because it's the core for many opportunities.
Fast forward to the end of Year 2...
Me: freaking out – “Bruhhh, seriously?”
I realized just learning what the college teaches won't get me where I want to go.
A special interest is a must.
So, I finally stopped procrastinating and decided to narrow it down. I found interest in three fields:
-
UI/UX – (I’ve written about this—check it out!)
-
Full Stack Development – Because most people were heading there, and I wanted to see what the hype was about.
-
Cybersecurity – Because I had a knack for solving mysteries, and all that “clicking and hacking” stuff sounded sooo cool 😅
Out of thousands of possible buckets, I had three very different ones. (Okay, maybe the first two are somewhat connected.)
So, I gave myself a trial period. I had two more years, after all!
I enrolled in courses and proactively showed interest in UI/UX and Full Stack, since they were comparatively easier to grasp.
But cybersecurity? I had chosen a pretty advanced course, and I just couldn’t get a hold of it. So I hit pause on that one.
Still, even though I enjoyed UI/UX and Full Stack, my heart felt like something was missing.
The Trial Ended… Now What?
Even after gaining some experience, I couldn’t decide which field to stick with.
So, I researched potential pay scales and career growth in each.
The answer was too obvious—it was Cybersecurity that I was missing.
But due to pressure from all sides, I pushed it to the “future plan” list and continued with UI/UX and Full Stack.
(If you're reading this blog, it’s likely based on the experiences I’ve gained in those two fields—check out the rest! )
But the thought of missing out on cybersecurity haunted me.
Fast Forward to the End of Third Year…
Discussion time with parents:
“Job or higher studies?”
For a while, I was sure—I want to do a Master’s in Cybersecurity or pursue something in it.
And no—it’s not just because “Cybersecurity sounds so cool!”
I actually did the research—what it is, how it's used, where it's applied—and realized that Cybersecurity is absolutely wild.
So What’s Crazy About Cybersecurity?
First of all—Cybersecurity is a whole new world, just like any other tech domain.
But here’s the catch—it's connected to EVERY tech field out there.
And for someone like me, who’s always been dipping hands in multiple buckets—this is PERFECT.
Because dipping into one means touching all others too.
And I LOVE that.
Also…
-
This field never fades.
As long as technology evolves, cybersecurity evolves.TLDR: It’s an evergreen field.
-
It’s perfect for me because I HATE doing the same thing again and again.
Cybersecurity challenges you with something new every time.
(Go check out its roadmap🛣️—it's massive!) -
Since I have some experience in UI/UX and Full Stack, I can integrate all three and create amazing things.
Always challenged, never bored.
Given all this (and many more thoughts that ran through my mind), I concluded—This is the field for me.
I just need to learn it right, experiment, go mad and crazy about it, and never get tired of it.
If your dream field makes you feel the same way—congratulations! You're in the right place.
That’s My Story. Now, What’s Yours?
Have you found your dream field?
If yes, congratulations! 🎉
If not—don’t worry. We all know you're trying your best, and you’ll find it eventually.
"Everyone has their own timeline."
That sums it up for this blog.
Thanks for reading this far—check out my other blogs as well, and all the best in whatever you’re doing! 🤗
